Coagulation Status in Dogs Naturally Infected with Angiostrongylus vasorum

چکیده
Angiostrongylus vasorum infection has been associated with coagulopathies including hyperfibrinolysis. We compared coagulation status thromboelastometry (ROTEM) parameters in dogs naturally infected A. versus healthy to determine clinicopathological bleeding, hypocoagulopathy, and Clinical signs, white blood cell count, platelet hematocrit, plasmatic tests (PT, aPTT, fibrinogen concentration), D-dimer, ROTEM S (Ex-tem, In-tem, Fib-tem, Ap-tem) were analysed between nonbleeding, control hypo- normocoagulable animals. signs of bleeding present 6/9 (67%) hypocoagulable 1/9 (11%) dogs. PT, concentration, several significantly different normocoagulabe Hyperfibrinolysis was identified 44% more common low MCFFib-tem but not concentration or increased D-dimers. CFTEx-tem > 248 swas 100% sensitive 89% specific predict Hyperfibrinolysis, hypocoagulability are Only Ex-tem Fib-tem potentially PT hypocoagulability. analysis enables detection hyperfibrinolysis within minutes.

Hyperfibrinolysis and Hypofibrinogenemia Diagnosed With Rotational Thromboelastometry in Dogs Naturally Infected With Angiostrongylus vasorum
BACKGROUND The pathomechanism of Angiostrongylus vasorum infection-associated bleeding diathesis in dogs is not fully understood. OBJECTIVE To describe rotational thromboelastometry (ROTEM) parameters in dogs naturally infected with A. vasorum and to compare ROTEM parameters between infected dogs with and without clinical signs of bleeding. ANIMALS A total of 21 dogs presented between 2013 ...
متن کاملPathological findings in dogs naturally infected with Angiostrongylus vasorum in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.
Fifty-six dogs from St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada, were evaluated for Angiostrongylus vasorum infection. Small numbers of nematodes were found within pulmonary arteries of 6 dogs. Larvae were identified in fecal samples in 2 of 6 dogs. All 6 dogs had multifocal granulomatous pneumonia and sometimes foci of chronic thrombosis, which varied from very mild to severe. One dog had extensive pulmo...
متن کاملDetection of specific antibodies in dogs infected with Angiostrongylus vasorum.
Canine angiostrongylosis, caused by the nematode Angiostrongylus vasorum, is an emerging cardiopulmonary disease in Europe which can be fatal if left untreated. We determined the diagnostic value of the specific detection of antibodies against A. vasorum adult somatic antigen, adult excretory/secretory (E/S) antigen and first stage larvae (L1) somatic antigen in ELISAs. Also, A. vasorum adult s...
متن کاملUnexplained bleeding as primary clinical complaint in dogs infected with Angiostrongylus vasorum.
INTRODUCTION Unexplained bleeding was the primary clinical complaint in 15 dogs diagnosed with A. vasorum and was observed in the mouth, as external bleeding, as large subcutaneous hematoma, as hemoptysis, in the brain, post ovariectomy, as epistaxis, in the anterior ocular chamber and on a tracheal intubation tube. In 8 dogs the cause of bleeding initially was suspected to be a minor trauma or...
متن کاملAn ELISA for sensitive and specific detection of circulating antigen of Angiostrongylus vasorum in serum samples of naturally and experimentally infected dogs.
Canine angiostrongylosis is an emerging cardiopulmonary disease in Europe which can be fatal if left untreated. We developed a sandwich-ELISA based on a monoclonal antibody (mAb Av 56/1/2) and on polyclonal rabbit antibodies directed against Angiostrongylus vasorum adult excretory/secretory - antigen for the detection of circulating serum antigen of A. vasorum. The sensitivity of the test was 9...
